What do you recommend as far as lights go for studio photography starting out.? I’m wanting to get into some studio/portrait photography but not looking to invest a ton of money right off the bat. I don’t know where to start though with the lighting aspect. How much wattage should I aim for? Strobe or consistent? I normally video weddings and I see a lot of photographers who will have just a flash on a stand with a softbox around it and that’s all they use as their secondary light, is it better to just get an extra flash and put it on a stand as opposed to buying an extra light? Where can I rent photography studio equipment? Riverside, CA region. Also, would you say that it’s better to rent equipment or simply buy it. Starter studio lights for beginer portrait photographer? I am just getting into photographing people in a studio. What would a beginer light set run and what kind would you recomennd. Right now I do not have any lights at all besides the 430ex on my Canon Xti. I would like a basic/starter set of two lights and everything to use them for roughly 400-500. Could i uses pillowcases to help protect my M-Audio BX8a studio monitors from dust? Will it in any way do harm to the speaker over an actual protective cover? Need recording software recommendation.? I’m relatively new to making music, I’m looking for the best software for my purposes. From a few conversations I’ve narrowed it down to Reason and Ableton live. What I’d like to do is record vocals and acoustic guitar using this awesome snowball mic that I have, but I also want to make hip hop beats, Dub step, something more experimental electronic based stuff. It seems like Ableton would allow me to do all those things quite well, but I wanted a few more opinions. I’m also hoping to get a sequencer. I have a midi keyboard. How to get high quality sound out of my Microphone? So i’ve been trying to get the necessary equipment to start producing music and I got the basic stuff, A Laptop, WavePad Sound Editor (free version), Audacity 1.3 Beta (free version), and a Microphone with a Pop Filter and Mic Stand. The Microphone is a SHURE SM58. The cord that I have for the Mic connects to like a guitar amp so at first I could talk through the Mic and hear it through my amp. But then I got an adapter that fits onto the amp jack which then fits into my computer. So basically I’m set to record.
